Put your best foot forward.
Long-time casting director Valerie McCaffrey says, "What I want from a demo reel is for the first fifteen seconds to be brilliant so I can move on to the next 99 things on my list."
Every agent and casting director has a similar list. So, your very best and most impressive 15 seconds must open your demo.

You only get one first impression.
Every second counts ! And the first 15 are really your make or break opportunity to capture attention. So, your demo should have nothing superfluous. It should go from one feel/mood to the next
It really should show all the colors and textures that you have to offer in as short a period as possible without detracting from your performances. That’s the wonderful thing about editing. We don’t have to use the whole 2 minutes of a scene. When edited by an experienced professional, a 2 minute scene can be cut down without anyone really even noticing the edits and it makes things move at a better, more fluid pace. You don’t want your co-star hogging the screen. This video is all about You !

For demonstration purposes only.
Remember that a demo is a “demonstration” of what you’re capable of.
Many actors get hung up on each individual clip. They want it to have a beginning, a middle and an end. That’s just fine and dandy if you’re showing this to your friends and family. They’ll love to see the whole thing. But for demo purposes, we likely only need a piece of the clip to show your abilities as an actor and then we effortlessly segue into the next clip.
We are professionals aren’t we? And the people you want to watch your demo are professionals.
Busy professionals. You can’t afford to waste a second of their time.
